RetroReview : The NES January Classic Part One

Roll up, roll up for the very first Retrosection NES January Classic. Well it sounds fun doesn’t it ? Random NES games will be put through their paces (briefly) as RetroBear gives some love to a console he hasn’t had a lot of time for in the past….
A mighty beast and built to last - if it was a cooler colour it would be AWESOME
You know when you have been a bit harsh on something in the past and as a result of that you tend to form an opinion that stays with you forever ? Hmmmm me too. I have always harboured ill feelings towards the NES for some reason. I don’t know why but for some reason it doesn’t give me the same feeling as I get from the SNES, N64, Gamecube and Game Boy. It’s kind of daft really as if it wasn’t for the success of the NES rising from the ashes after the Video Games Crash of 1983, we might not be talking about consoles in quite the same vein and computer games might be something completely different.
RetroEvents : London Gaming Convention (December 2011) Review

Better late than never, RetroBear takes you on a journey by train to “That London” as he attends the first ever London Gaming Convention and has a thoroughly enjoyable time of it….
You may recall towards the end of November I mentioned I had been invited to the first London Gaming Convention not far from Arsenal Football Club. Well the good news is I did manage to attend. The bad news is it took me so long to write an article about it. However I can report that, despite a few teething problems, and those I can’t really comment on as I did not take take part, I found the whole thing to be really rather good.

Time for some top sports action from the good old US of A. It might look like rugby for nancies, what with all that padding and stuff, but by gum does Madden play a damn good game of football….
About as close as you can get to being the great man himself without the need to buy a large mobile home

Well the good stuff didn’t last as RetroBear plays one of the biggest steaming piles of cow dung ever released on the Super Nintendo. The question is why did anyone really both trying to convert a game so shallow as this ?
Well the box looks nice I suppose, but its all downhill when you open it

Taz and Retrobear share a few things in common. They are always hungry, both hideously ugly and both amazingly hairy. It seemed only fair to look at Taz’s first platform outing on the Mega Drive and find out if the rave reviews on release were still justified 20 years later…..

Simple things appeal to simple minds, and they don’t get much simpler than RetroBear’s. Give him some bongo shaped controllers and a sing-a-long soundtrack and you have the makings of a decent game. Throw in Nintendo’s number one ape and you get Donkey Konga on the Gamecube……
Bongos + Gamecube + TV = Fun for all the family....for a limited time anyway

The old foe stands opposite Retrobear – the move tie in. However on this occasion he is more than pleasantly surprised as this one is really rather good. In fact not just rather good but stupendously good. So grab your silencer and your tuxedo as RetroBear goes all Bond on us….
You can tell the quality that went into this game and that is why its a gaming classic

Donning his whites and shouting Howzat in an incredibly loud voice at anyone who’ll listen, RetroBear turns his hand at the gentleman’s game and asks why there was never a decent cricket game before this one….
