Dateline 29th January 2012
As the cold weather begins to creep in, what better way to warm your hands than on a veritable raging fire of hot NES games. This is the final part of the NES January Classic 2012 and there are still one or two surprises for Retrobear to unearth…..
Even if your old consoles don't work you can always adapt them into something more useful instead
And now the end is near, and we reach, the final few-games-of-the-NES-January-classic. The observant amongst you will notice that once again I have failed to go for the more obvious titles – those being anything with Mario and Zelda in the title, Metroid, Castlevania etc. That is purely because rather than play games that people have played over and over again and been reviewed to shit by literally everyone running their own site and blog, I just want to be a little different.
That’s not to say I won’t play and review them in the future though………….maybe.

Continuing the NES January Classic, under the microscope this time are a couple of original titles, a few arcade conversions and one game that had me laughing like a banshee. So join me as I go up to the letter R…………..
I have always said retro gaming gives you enough excitement to get wood. Here is proof.

Part 2 of the NES January Classic sees 5 more games come under the Retrosection microscope and as always it’s a mixed old bag……
It's not the size of your pad that counts, it's what you do with it that matters
It’s Part 2 of the NES January classic, where 5 more games come under the retro spotlight. The great thing about the NES was at the time you were getting original titles as well as arcade favourites being converted for the home market. We shall see more evidence of that as we proceed, and just for good measure here are those 5 which contain a mixture of the above :

Don’t you just hate it when someone some how manages to destroy something that seems indestructible ? How hard could it be to ruin an arcade classic such as Commando ? RetroBear should start re-reading some of his old posts as this is a far more common occurance than he seems to think………
Hmmmm doesn't exactly fill me with confidence - you can tell a lot from a title screen

You have to wonder why some games end up being converted to some consoles or comp0uters. Here is such a pointless exercise for your consideration as RetroBear looks back to his one and only experience with a C16+4…..
Make sure you always check the screenshots on the back....because they don't always apply to version you are buying....

Well the good stuff didn’t last as RetroBear plays one of the biggest steaming piles of cow dung ever released on the Super Nintendo. The question is why did anyone really both trying to convert a game so shallow as this ?
Well the box looks nice I suppose, but its all downhill when you open it

The old foe stands opposite Retrobear – the move tie in. However on this occasion he is more than pleasantly surprised as this one is really rather good. In fact not just rather good but stupendously good. So grab your silencer and your tuxedo as RetroBear goes all Bond on us….
You can tell the quality that went into this game and that is why its a gaming classic

One third of the way through the 30 days of gaming the pressure is most definitely on. After all which other 20 games will be slapped in to the consoles and played ? If only RetroBear had the Amiga version of Rocket Ranger and not this duff attem which arrived on the NES…..
The good news is you get to punch Nazis. The bad news is that's the only good news in this game
Back when I first had my Amiga there was a series of games that I was heavily fond of and now are but a pleasant memory. The fact they all came from the same software house – Cinemaware – is no coincidence. Their games had a very strong reputation for being of incredibly high quality with stunning graphics and rather excellent game play too. One game I never got to play was It Came From The Desert which was a spoof on the monster invasion films of the 1950’s.

Time constraints ahoy so Retrobear condenses 2 games reviews into one entry. First up the ice flow hopping antics of Frostbite on the wooden wonder Atari 2600, and then slipping on a pair of red shorts and some big mouse ears as he tackles Castle of Illusion on the Sega Mega Drive….
Building igloos has never been so much fun.
Man or mouse ? Only your gaming skills can determine which you are.
